Want Advocacy?

For those of you who read this newsletter - I mean really read it, not flip through to monitor the headlines - you know that we touch upon advocacy in every issue.

This newsletter will be somewhat different, because we are touching upon advocacy on every page.

There are only a couple of non-advocacy articles this time, so if you are expecting some light reading, this is probably not going to be your cup of tea.

Right now we have a few initiatives going on.

“I Want Choices” is an initiative to educate our communities about the possibility that choices in support services may eventually be a thing of the past.

“Get On The List!” is an initiative that we hope to take statewide. We want to encourage every family in which there is a person with a developmental disability to get their family member on a list to be declared eligible for support services.

The Peak Community Services Foundation was founded in 2007 to raise, manage and disburse funds to provide support to individuals on the waiting lists here in our local communities. To our knowledge, we are still the only agency taking the initiative to provide support in this fashion.

So sit back, get comfortable, have your little pot of tea ready (I recommend Honey Ginseng Mint), put up your feet, get out your reading glasses, and dive right in.

And, as always, thank you for all that you do on behalf of persons with developmental disabilities.
