Logansport: Ashley Jones

Ashley is the daughter of Barry and Dawn Jones. She has a younger sister named Sadie and an older brother named Ryan.

Ashley grew up in Logansport and is a graduate of Logansport High School.

Ashley moved into the Group Home on Woodlawn Avenue on December 20. She loves her beautiful, new home! She is always anxious to give first-time visitors the “home tour.”

In addition to working in Work Services, Ashley enjoys her community employment at Bolins Donut Shop.

Believe it or not, she does have some spare time, and she likes to use that time playing Phase Ten and Skip Bo. She also enjoys bead work and is a collector of Wizard of Oz memorabilia.

Ashley is an active athlete in many Special Olympics sports and her collection of gold, silver and bronze medals is quite impressive!

Logansport: Marissa McClain

Marissa is the daughter of Clifford McClain and Joy and Greg Scott. She has a twin sister named Mallory and a younger brother named Brayton.

Marissa is a Logansport native and graduated from Logansport High School.

Marissa has the distinction of being the first person to move into the Group Home on Woodlawn Avenue.

Besides working two hours each day at Work Services, Marissa is employed at Little Children’s Ministry, where she helps care for pre-schoolers.

It is the perfect job for her, because she loves children and they love her, too.

Little Children’s Ministry is planning to send her for some special training and she is looking forward to that opportunity.

Marissa loves spending spare time instant messaging with her sister and friends, which also helps polish her computer and typing skills.

She is a great fan of Kasey Kahne. Just ask her!

Logansport: What A Blessing

One of the most important lifetime transitions is to move away from your family and make a life for yourself. The women who live in this home are making that transition now. This is a first step for them, and they will gain the skills they need in order to live successfully on their own.

By the time the newsletter goes to press, there will be six women living in this home. This home is a blessing not only to these women, but to their families, who can now enjoy an adult relationship with their adult children.

That is the transition for which these families hoped and prayed.

Winamac: It's Thursday! Let's Bowl!

There are several long-time bowlers that travel from Winamac to Logansport every Thursday afternoon. So we decided to ask these bowlers a few questions to see what the draw was.

What do you like most about bowling? This drew a variety of responses, from liking to hit the pins, giving them something to do in the evening, and for the bowlers who go to win, “I like trying to make a strike.”

Do you get to do other things when you go bowling? Well of course! This is the perfect time to go out to eat! Karen and Margaret take turns picking out where they will go to eat, but others have their favorites (hamburgers!).

At least one of the gentlemen admits that he has an opportunity to look at the pretty girls (there are lots of them that bowl, apparently). Timer, should we admit that you are the one looking at the girls?

Who do you think the best bowler is? Would you believe that every person who answered that question thought that he or she was the best bowler from Winamac?

Do you take your own ball, or do you have a favorite color of ball that you get at the bowling alley? Kati and Karen K. always go for blue balls, and Karen H. likes to find a red one. Timer goes for blue, and Elvin is going for green these days.

Karen F. and Margaret have their own balls. Karen’s is green, and Margaret has a purple ball with sparkles. How could you lose with purple and sparkles together?

Who do you go with, or who do you meet? Kathy usually takes Karen F. and Margaret, although Glenna drives sometimes. Ella Mae also takes a van down with bowlers. Elvin wanted to make it clear that even though he might ride down with Ella Mae, he meets his girlfriend Margaret when he gets there. And wasn’t it nice that Margaret said the same thing? She meets her boyfriend Elvin down at the alley.

Any last thoughts? There was a groundswell of support for Rick to go with them, just so they can beat him at bowling!

From staff: This is a great evening for everyone. It’s good exercise and everyone has made very good friends that they care about and visit regularly, either in person or by sending cards back and forth.
