March Is Disabilities Awareness Month

The theme of Disability Awareness Month 2008 is “Attitude is Everything.”

The poster features a group of teenagers playing a game of pick-up football. The poster illustrates the theme by showing the “tough” attitude required during a competitive football game, as well as the fun participants have when they play together.

The text of the poster reads, “When you champion a winning attitude for yourself and your team, you can achieve anything.”

I was recently listening to one of the consumers at Peak Community Services who was speaking at a tour being conducted at our agency.

She proudly declared that she was a “self-advocate.”

Advocacy is a continuing need for Peak Community Services. Advocacy comes in many forms and can have a positive impact on the organization and the lives of those who choose our services. I will summarize the different types of advocacy, and then extend an invitation for you to become an advocate.

Our New Home!

Ashley is the daughter of Barry and Dawn Jones. She has a younger sister named Sadie and an older brother named Ryan.

Marissa is the daughter of Clifford McClain and Joy and Greg Scott. She has a twin sister named Mallory and a younger brother named Brayton.

By the time the newsletter goes to press, there will be six women living in this home. This home is a blessing not only to these women, but to their families, who can now enjoy an adult relationship with their adult children.

It's Thursday! Let's Bowl!

There are several long-time bowlers that travel from Winamac to Logansport every Thursday afternoon. So we decided to ask these bowlers a few questions to see what the draw was.

What do you like most about bowling? This drew a variety of responses, from liking to hit the pins, giving them something to do in the evening, and for the bowlers who go to win, “I like trying to make a strike.”

Millie's Message

I worked on the Development Committee soon after I joined the Peak Community Services Board and at that time I never dreamed we’d be able to get a Foundation established and active.

I’ve been proud to serve for these past years and am proud of everyone at Peak Community Services.
