Providing New Jobs
The document destruction business is now open at 801 Erie Avenue. We have an industrial shredder that feeds mixed use office paper into one baler. That baler produces 1/2 ton bales (see photo). Another baler compacts cardboard products and produces another huge bale. Both types of bales are sold to a local recycle facility to earn additional income for the program.
Eight consumers are trained to operate the equipment. Bonnie Bell, shown here, has been instrumental in the training process. Jane Nelson, also shown here, is one of the consumers trained to use the equipment.
Two other consumers assist with materials handling, working with Gayhart Kimbrel to pick up filled secure containers around the community.
TRIP Into Bowling
Sometimes there is just nothing more satisfying than a good game of bowling.
Recently, Rhonda West and Kayla Gano took a few folks to the lanes.
Here, you see Kayla helping David Swank set up a shot, and you see Rhonda helping George Bell.
Both David and George are very good at bowling. Even though Rhonda and Kayla are helping, David and George know what to do and when to do it.
As you can see from the photos of this evening, there was just nothing more satisfying than a good game of bowling....
Family Ties & Little White Lies
Thespian Jim Baker is at it again. Once more, he has a role in a Civic Players production. In this production, Jim played a police officer.
Honestly, Jim. I think you only take these roles so you can have your picture in the newsletter!!!
Annual Meeting of the Local Chapter of the ARC of Indiana
Peak Community Services held its annual meeting on October 2, 2007. Among other items of business, several Directors were elected to the Board to terms ending in 2009: Darla Bauer, Larry Beach, Becky Dilts, Barry Jones, Annette Lindsley, Andrew VanZee, and Mary Welker.
Board members Steve Miller and Rose Ann Garrison (not pictured) were honored for their service on the Board as they step down. Outgoing President Ellen Bland was also honored for her service. She is not only stepping down as President, but she is unable to stand for reelection due to the length of time she has served on the Board. The Annual Report, containing program and financial information, can be viewed online at www.peakcommunity.com. If you prefer a paper copy, contact Kathi Thompson: (574) 753-4104 ext 128 / kthompson@peakcommunity.com.
Annual Awards
Several awards were presented at the Annual Meeting. Staff member Bob Allen was presented the Peak Performer award for his excellent rapport with consumers, staff and regulatory agency personnel, which helps tremendously in cutting through red tape for consumers.
Terry Dillman, also a staff member, was presented the Mountain Mover award for his efforts in assisting a consumer to navigate various visual issues to regain his sight.
Staff member Lyndy Miller was presented the You Make A Difference award for her efforts in securing in-kind donations for the Work Services program over a several year period of time.
Board member Millie Redweik was presented the Shooting Star award for her persistent efforts, resulting in the enhancement of the Fund Development program of the agency.
